Description

Lemon zest, toffee apples – and a scent of coconut. Considered by many to be a good improvement over the 10 year old Glengoyne. A dram of real quality and sophistication. Young Glengoyne is often wonderfully malty, whilst older versions are sherry dominated. The Glengoyne 12 year old single malt is where we start to see the sherry exert itself. It isn’t in command yet but it’s flexing its muscles. The Glengoyne signature sherry wood brings intensity and richness, while first fill bourbon casks add fresh notes of citrus and vanilla. Glengoyne 12 year old is reasonably malty with a touch of orange peel. The apple notes remain present and accounted for on the nose, but there’s a honeyed sweetness present. This is absent in the 10 year and is most appealing after adding a few drops of water. The palate delivers on the promise of the nose with lots of vanilla and oak notes transitioning to a long, lingering finish resembling a generous slice of coconut tiramisu, with a showing of the American oak. Some dried fruits as well, raisins perhaps. Some have commented that a higher alcohol content may be preferable in this dram. We suggest the Glengoyne Cask Strength 58.8% Single Malt Scotch Whisky for those of that opinion.

Very well balanced and great value for money.
