is recognised by the Malt Whisky Association of Australia for producing the nation's best single malt.
The Australian continent, famous for producing many fine wines, can now add a few whisky distilleries to its fine line up. Hellyers Road comes with a quirk that it is produced in Tasmania, home of the famous devil.
Hellyers Road is Australia’s largest boutique distillery and the only distillery in northern Tasmania.
In 1999, a group of dairy farmers opened Hellyers distillery in Burnie Tasmania. It takes the name from a road surveyed in 1827 by the explorer Henry Hellyer. The distillery’s first flow of spirits was on January 29, 1999, and the first bottles were sold in 2006.
In 2013 Hellyers Road Distillery’s Pinot Noir Finish was recognised in blind tastings conducted at Whisky Live Paris as being Best New-World Whisky and in 2010 its Peated varietal was judged Australia’s Best Whisky by the Malt Whisky Society of Australia.
In 2017, Hellyers Road Distillery Original 10 Year Single Malt – with flavours of nutmeg, banana and peach – secured a Silver in the Australasia – Single Malt Premium tasting. The champion of the flight was Hellyers Road Single Malt Pinot Noir Finish, which boasted an “incredibly long finish, with a good combination of vanilla and spice. The brand also impressed with its Henry’s Legacy St Valentine’s Peak expression. Brilliant effort and superb quality. If they can achieve a good value for money ratio, these whiskies will truly shine and will get worldwide recognition; beautifully executed whiskies.” said the Global Whisky Master.
